The End of an Era

Well I’d like to say I’m surprised but I’m not, by the timing yes, but not the fact this is the decision Jogi has made. With the events of the past 18 months this has felt increasingly inevitable. One way or another it was going to happen. On the one hand you could say it’s better he’s going out on his own terms, but honestly there was no good way for this to happen, no way in which I’d be happy with it. I think it’s probably the right decision, as much as it pains me to say that. I’m in no way happy he’s leaving yet I feel a little relieved that all the negativity can end now.

It’s weird to think though, if it weren’t for the pandemic the Euros would have been and gone already. Would he have left after the Euros last summer had the tournament been played then? No way of knowing now obviously. First Christian Prokop sacked, now Jogi is leaving. Oh well at least Hansi isn’t going anywhere. Well not too far anyway. I mean he’s the perfect person to pick up where Jogi left off. I thought that long before his success at Bayern, he didn’t need to win a Bundesliga title or a Champions league trophy to convince me he’s got what it takes. Team Hansi all the way here. Door’s open Hansi. (And in the event he sticks with Bayern, Stefan Kuntz is my choice.)

For reasons which long predate Jogi’s decision to step down I’ve stopped keeping up with posting pictures from games and training. I left it so long I then got out of the habit of doing so. But with the realisation this tournament will be Jogi’s last and if I don’t complete the posts things will be incomplete, will then I had to finish it. It’s late and way overdue, but it’s something that has to be done, to close the chapter, to finish the story. In preparation for whatevever, or rather whoever comes next.
